Meta has just changed the whole AI game. In this day and age when everyone is using Google’s Gemini and OpenAI is ChatGPT, meta has released its new WhatsApp feature called Meta AI. But what is Meta AI and what does it actually do? Let’s see.
What is Meta AI?
You must’ve used ChatGPT or Gemini before. All of these models are called generative AI models or Gen AI models. Though AI is used for various research and mathematical purposes, Gen AI has been the face of AI nowadays and everyone thinks that GenAI is the only thing that works. Well, Gen AI has made a major breakthrough and people have started to trust models like ChatGPT.
We need to understand that all these AI Platforms we use are based on Large Language Models or LLMs. Now what are LLMs? Large Language Models are Machine learning programs that have been trained on a large set of data. In simple terms, the AI engineers make some algorithms and feed them large amounts of Data. The algorithm learns the data and trains itself based on the data. All these LLMs are then used to make platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini. The Meta AI is the newest WhatsApp feature which enables users to chat with Meta’s own AI model. If you open the Meta AI feature then you can see its full name “Meta AI with Llama 3”. Llama 3 is the Large Language Model developed by Meta and the Meta AI is powered by Llama 3.

Whatsapp is a free platform, so it only made sense that meta would make this feature free of cost. Meta AI is capable of doing everything ChatGPT can, meaning, with Meta AI, you can ask questions to it and it will answer you in no-time.Going further, Meta AI is the first completely free of cost AI which can also be used for image generation. Along with texts, you can also ask Meta AI to generate images like DALLE and Midjourney.
The image generation platforms people were using before worked on a Freemium model, which means that only few features were available for free and there was a limit to generate texts but now, with Meta AI, you can generate unlimited images.
How to use Meta AI?
To use Meta AI simply follow these steps:
- Open your WhatsApp normally as you open it everytime.
- You will see a new button with a circular blue and violet icon just above the “new message button”. Tap on it.
- One screen will open where you will see a textbox to type texts.
- Tap on the textbox and you can start using Meta AI.
There is another way of using Meta AI directly in chats. To use it in this way follow these steps:
- Open the chat in which you want to use the Meta AI.
- Tap on the textbox in the chat.
- Write “@” and then a drop-down menu will open where you will see “Meta AI” and tap on it.
- Then write whatever you want Meta AI to do and it will respond directly in the chat.
